How to classify activated carbon for industrial use?

1. What is activated carbon?

Activated carbon is a functional carbon material with developed pores, large specific surface area and strong adsorption capacity.

2. How is activated carbon produced?

Coal, husk, wood, bone, petroleum residues, etc. are used as raw materials, which are first carbonized, and then activated at a high temperature of 800 to 1500 degrees to form well-developed micropores and mesopores, so that the specific surface area is increased and the adsorption capacity meets certain requirements.

The production of ordinary activated carbon ------ is generally divided into two processes, the first: carbonization and the second: activation.

3. How to classify activated carbon?

Activated carbon is divided into hundreds of types such as decolorization activated carbon, water purification activated carbon, air purification activated carbon, heavy metal recovery activated carbon, etc., which is acid-resistant, alkali-resistant, heat-resistant, and has a wide range of uses, and is the most effective adsorption material that can be achieved at the current scientific level.

(1) According to the production of raw materials:

It is mainly divided into wood activated carbon, coal activated carbon, shell activated carbon, petroleum coke activated carbon, etc.;

(2) According to the appearance and shape:

It is mainly divided into powdered activated carbon, granular activated carbon and other shapes of activated carbon (such as activated carbon fiber, activated carbon cloth, honeycomb activated carbon, etc.);

(3) According to the use:

According to different uses, it can be divided into gas phase adsorption carbon, liquid phase adsorption carbon, sugar carbon, pharmaceutical carbon, industrial carbon, catalyst and catalyst carrier carbon. Activated carbon is inexpensive and versatile, and is widely used in various fields such as industry, agriculture, national defense, transportation, medicine and health, and environmental protection.

4. Activated carbon in China is mainly divided into two categories.

(1) Air purification activated carbon: It is high-quality activated carbon that has been specially treated to specifically purify polluted air. Only activated carbon with high hardness, high strength, and microporous pores can be used as air purification carbon.

Mainly used for: newly renovated living rooms (including offices, hotels, etc.) purification, deodorization and detoxification of various workplaces and air conditioning filters, air purifiers, central air conditioning filtration systems, air filters, air purifiers, car filters, etc.

(2) Activated carbon for water purification: coconut shell is mostly used as raw material, refined and processed by advanced production technology, and the product has the advantages of developed pore structure, high strength, low impurity content, appropriate particle size, low resistance, and easy regeneration.
